BETTER than a Fraxel Laser treatment, December 21, 2011

This review is from: 1.0mm Micro Needle Roller Skin Care Therapy Dermatology System (Misc.)

I’ve had all kinds of skin treatments. Thermage, Fraxel, Cosmelon, Alpha Hydroxyl Acid Peels, even a couple of Jessner Peels and I used to use Retin-A. So far, this Needle Roller has been one of the most effective and least expensive things I’ve tried yet. I read up on it before purchasing and in some cases people have paid as much as 0 for one of these gadgets, so the price was really the main thing that attracted me. I chose the 1.00mm size as it was stated elsewhere that the larger 1.5mm and up will puncture the skin too deeply and cause bleeding. This size seems to be perfect. It abrades the skin enough so that serums (I use Skinbiology Copper with it) will penetrate and be more effective. The abrasion also triggers a “healing response” in the skin, so age spots, scars, etc. (which I consider to be a result of “incomplete healing”) have a chance to further heal and diminish or go away entirely. I clean my roller after each use by squirting rubbing alcohol over it and drying off the excess with a blow dryer. It comes in a handy clear plastic case for storage that prevents the needles from touching anything so they remain clean and won’t bend. You roll it on an area back and forth about 20 times each direction. Not the most pleasant sensation, it feels like a cactus rubbing on my skin. You can use a numbing cream with it, which I haven’t tried yet–but I will. It causes a reddening similar to a sunburn that is usually gone by morning when I use it at night. Otherwise I am able to cover it with some concealer (I use either GloMinerals Camouflage or Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer). I noticed the very next day, after the 1st use, how much younger and better my skin looked. I’ve also been using it on the back of my hands and they are also looking younger as a result. I have a DPL and a Lightstim that I use twice a day (both) and I think that ALL of this combined, Derma Roller, Copper Serum, high quality cosmetics and LED red light therapy are a MUCH more effective and extremely affordable way to improve the appearance of my skin, especially in comparison to the $ $ $ I wasted at the dermatologist’s office on the treatments I had (was talked into). And it’s done in a slow, subtle way that is probably better in the long run for my skin.

Interesting experience, July 15, 2011

I’m new to micro-needling. In fact I am an avid fan of cosmetic procedures and have only just realized, “Hey, wait a minute. Half of what I pay hundreds of dollars for, I can actually do for myself at home!” Oddly enough, I have never come across this as an option at any Med Spa. Have only tried it twice in the last 2 or 3 weeks but saw an improvement afterward – smoother skin, better pore size, etc. Although I am also using a lot of new products, doing peels and increased masks, so it’s possibly a combination of a better skin routine in general. I am hoping it really does help with stretch marks and cellulite as mentioned in some reviews. The sensation I wouldn’t describe as ‘painful’…there’s much worse in this industry, but more like ‘annoying’. Remember, as with everything, it requires regular use otherwise your skin will just revert back to before. This brand is also slightly cheaper than some of the others and seems to offer the same quality product.

Used this for stretchmarks, December 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: 1.0mm Micro Needle Roller Skin Care Therapy Dermatology System (Misc.)

This size is recommended for wrinkles and lines. But i bought this size intending on using it with my stretchmarks (I’ve gotten a few after pregnancy), its been about 3 weeks and i’ve got AWESOME results. This product can slightly hurt and sting but it is worth it. The marks that were red and dark have faded and are becoming smaller! So far out of all the creams and things i’ve used to soothe my stretchmarks, this one really did it! I can’t wait to see the 6 week results. Also, the shipment was pretty fast!

I would read up on derma-rollers though, make sure you find the needle-size you would like.

Glycolic Acid 35% Gel Peel, 30ml (Professional)

Glycolic Acid 35% Gel Peel, 30ml (Professional)

Glycolic Acid 35% Gel Peel, 30ml (Professional)

  • Entry Level Professional Strength Peel; approx. 15 full facial peels per bottle
  • Minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen growth
  • Ideal for dry skin, hyperpigmentation and premature aging
  • Evens skin tone and minimizing areas of discoloration for all skin types
  • Cumulative benefits and optimal results with weekly treatments

Glycolic Acid is a superficial peeling agent that is made from sugar cane. It is often considered the most active and beneficial of the Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHA).

Glycolic/35 works beneath the skin to stimulate collagen and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Working below the surface there is generally very little visible peeling with the Glycolic/35.

With repetitive and continuous use, improvement to skin tone and texture occurs.

Once inside the skin’s cell, glycolic acid will serve as a catalyst for the formation of new collagen which will reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the skin’s surface.

Glycolic acid has been proven to be very effective in the treatment of hyperpigmentation, melasma, actinic keratosis, acne, and oily skin, as well as other cosmetic uses.

Facial skin care is almost the most important part of the skin care program. Facial care not only involves certain products but the right methodology to do that. Often it is seen that people buy most related and high standard facial skin products but lack the knowledge of choosing right product for the right skin. It is not only the product but the application that keeps your face fresh and bright.

Know your skin first:

The first step in finding solution to you facial skin care is to know what type of skin you have? The facial care is almost totally dependant on the type of skin you have. There are several types of skins which are dry, Oily, sensitive, normal and hard and thick skins. It is better that you must read your face quite often in details when you are starting your facial skin care program. You will come to know what you need and what you have on your face and if you make it a regular practice then you will come to know the results of your facial skin care.

What you need to do on regular basis?

Once you have determined what type of facial skin you have then you may go for the solution part of your facial care program. You may start by cleansing your facial skin with a good liquid cleanser and avoid using soap bars because they are not meant for your face but rather to wash your remaining body parts. Soap bars often tend to dry up your skin by washing away all necessary moisture you’re your skin. If your skin is a little bit oily then creamy cleanser is right choice.

After cleansing, exfoliation must be made as a routine at least once a week. This step will show you a visible change on your skin. A proper exfoliation kit must be used to properly exfoliate your skin. Scrubs are also used to remove top most layer of dead skin. Some people also use Toners which are used to remove traces of oil. Moisturizing your skin is an important part of facial care because a good moisturizer locks moisture into the skin pores. Some of the beauty experts advise Eye Creams for eyes. Face lotion can also work for eye creams.

The wrinkle on the face is normally caused by the sun, so using the Sun block cream is advised to be mandatory in facial care. Sun block creams are helps in UV protection and must be the used in all weather conditions.

A wide variety of products are available for facial skin care like face washes, scrubs, cold creams, cleansers, face lotions and masks etc. Using high quality products for facial skin care preferably which are organic in nature and which especially designs for typical facial skins. You should check the higher percentage of organic compounds labeled on the product that are used in its formulation. Products selection must be on result basis, using a product which does not deliver good results, for a long term may be harmful to the facial skin.

While buying products for facial skincare, look for ingredients like:

Cynergy TK- It is powerfully effective in rejuvenating the skin and stimulates the growth of new skin cells.

Nano-Lipobelle- Many scientific studies have shown that it produce quite a dramatic anti-wrinkle effect.

Active Manuka Honey- It helps to restore and rejuvenate your skin while you sleep.

Some important natural ingredients like Shea Butter, Babassu, bioflavnoids, jojoba, avocado oil etc are known to be very effective in keeping your facial skin young and blemish free.

Before you have hair transplant surgery, you might want to know how it will turn out.  The truth is that every head of hair is different from all others and you cannot know exactly how it will turn out.  However, with a few facts at your disposal, you can get an advance idea of how your hair will look.

1.  The more hairs per graft that are used in your hair transplant, the less natural your hair will look.  Many doctors still use grafts that contain up to eight hairs.  These do not look as conspicuous as the hair plugs of earlier decades, but they do not look as natural as they can, either.  Try to find a doctor that uses grafts that contain one to four hair follicles.

These smaller grafts, also called follicular unit grafts, are ideal in restoring a receding hairline.  If your doctor uses the follicular unit grafts for your hairline, it will look much more natural than with the larger plug-like grafts.  This is important because your hair transplant will be noticeable if the hairline is not done well.

2.  Your hair transplant site will be fuller if you have higher density in your donor sites.  The density is based upon the number of hair follicles you have in each section of your scalp.  If you have a high number of hair follicles per square centimeter than most people, more grafts can be done, so your hair will look fuller.

3.  Your scalp laxity will also affect the fullness of your resulting hair transplant site.  This refers to the flexibility of your scalp.  How loose your scalp is helps to decide how many grafts can be done just as hair density does.

4.  Coarse hair will cover more area.  When your hair transplant is done, the surgeon will be able to use fewer hair follicles per graft if your hair is coarse.  That is because coarse hair provides more coverage.  However, finer hair will tend to look more natural, if thinner.

5.  Straight hair does not cover scalp like curly hair does.  If you have straight hair, you can be sure that your hair transplant surgery will be a challenge to your doctor.  Curly hair appears to provide even more coverage than it actually does because it stands up from the head.

6.  The way your hair color compares to your skin color will have an effect on the look of your hair transplant.  If you have a hair color that is similar to the color of your skin, you are in luck.  Your scalp will not betray any lack of coverage that happens to be present.

If, on the other hand, your hair and skin color contrast distinctly hair follicles show up more.  If there is even the slightest lack of coverage, it will be evident.  Just imagine a very light-skinned person with jet-black hair.  This person’s hair follicles will stand out in a very obvious way.

No one ever knows how hair transplant surgery will turn out until they see the results.  All of the basic problems can be dealt with if a skilled surgeon is involved.  However, knowing the possibilities will make it easier for you to know what questions to ask.

Why Do Skin Care Products Fail to Work?

How many times have you bought skin care products and used them and then realize they just don’t stand up to their claims? Often this can happen, the skin care products just fail to work and show the desired results. But before you decide to throw them away, consider some reasons why they might not be working correctly.

Changing Skin Type
Though you are born with a particular skin type, it can change in with time. As we age, our skin becomes drier. This is because the natural collagen and elastin fibers in the skin surface break down thus reducing the oil production and moisture retention abilities of the skin.

If you are way past your 20’s, chances are that your skin is relatively drier now. Therefore, skin care products designed for oily skin wouldn’t perform. Rather they will just dry your skin further. So if you continue using products that you used in your teenage years, they would obviously fail to show required results.

It’s best to use a gentle cleanser like Obagi C-Cleansing Gel that contains Vitamin C. It gently cleans the skin and leaves it soft and fresh.

Another factor that can cause skin type to change are environmental conditions. Cold weather can make the skin dry due to lower moisture in the air. Sticking to your regular moisturizer would not be sufficient then.

In winter, even if you have oily skin, you should switch to a more hydrating moisturizer rather than just sticking to a regular face wash. Try the NeoCutis Journee Bio-Restorative Day Cream.

Residual Products on the Skin
You may know what skin care products to use, but do you know how to use them effectively? After you apply your cleanser, do you rinse it off well?

When you don’t rinse well enough, residual particles from skin care products tend to stay on the skin. As a result, your skin pores can get clogged and become oily or further give rise to acne. Here, the skin care product is not at fault. Rather, it’s about how you remove it..

Make sure you rinse your face thoroughly with tepid water after using cleaners or face washes. Also, use a toner after you cleanse your skin in to make sure that all the particles of the former have been removed. You can use Obagi Nu-Derm Toner.

Too Many Incompatible Ingredients
Women often tend to use too many skin care products at the same time. But instead of producing enhanced effects on the skin, it actually deteriorates the skin. This is because similar ingredients or ones that have the same function do not work well when combined together.

Make sure you do not use skin care products that contain glycolic acid, salicylic acid and retinoids together at the same time. This will irritate your skin and cause reactions to sensitive skin types. Moreover, there may be certain ingredients in skin care products that do not suit you.

Poor Product Penetration
How well a skin care product works on your skin depends on how well it gets absorbed into the skin. Product penetration is a major factor that influences the efficiency of skin care products.

The outer layer of the skin surface is made up dry dead skin cells. As we age, they clump together and form a barrier that prevents skin care products from penetrating effectively. To break through this barrier and let the active ingredients get absorbed inside the skin surface, make sure to exfoliate the skin regularly. About twice a week is usually enough.

Also, do not forget to moisturize the skin well in order to maintain hydration.

Irritating Ingredients
There may be certain ingredients in skin care products that might not suit your skin type. Many products contain extra ingredients like essential oils and fragrance agents that may have reactions on the skin and make it oily and further promote acne breakouts.

If you have sensitive skin, you should clearly avoid skin care products that contain additional fragrances and perfume agents.

Unrealistic Expectations
Anti-aging skin care products do work to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and other signs of skin aging. However, you need to know that they are not magical wands that can make you look like you were in your teens.

The damage occurred slowly and the healing process will take time. Though there are certain anti-aging skin care products like the iS Clinical Youth Complex that guarantees instant elimination of wrinkles and fine lines by plumping them up, permanent reduction does take time. Give enough time for your skin care products to perform before throwing them away.

Photofacial skin care treatments, also called IPL, short for Intense Pulsed Light, are very effective, no down time, safe methods for removing pigment, or brown spots, and excess or broken blood vessels from the facial skin. Browns spots, broken blood vessels around the nose, chin and cheeks are classic signs of sun damage and aging of the facial skin. Brown spots, often called age spots are caused by pigment that is produced by the skin to protect the skin from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. New blood vessels grow into the skin in response to skin injury, first to wash out damaged skin debris and later to bring in healing factors. As our skin ages, the brown spots and broken blood vessels are left behind on the skin after the inflammation or skin injury has passed. These pigmented and red vascular spots create an aged variegated appearance to the facial skin which is called dyschromia, and is a sign of facial aging. Photofacial skin care treatments are the treatment of choice for benign facial skin pigmentation, age spots, brown spots and broken blood vessels and small red spots called telangiectasia on the face. Photofacial treatments are now preferred over laser treatments for these specific pigment and vascular lesions.

What Causes Age Spots, Sun Spots, Red Blotches and Broken Blood Vessels on the Face Neck and Décolletage?

Browns spots and broken blood vessels around the nose, chin, cheeks, neck, hands and Décolletage are classic signs of sun damage and aging of the skin. Brown spots, often called age spots are caused by pigment that is produced by the skin to protect the skin from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. New blood vessels grow into the skin in response to skin injury by the sun. This process of new blood vessel growth is called inflammation.

The new blood vessels bring blood into the facial skin first to wash out damaged skin cell debris and later to bring in skin healing factors.

As our skin ages, the brown spots and broken blood vessels are left behind on the skin after the inflammation or skin injury has passed. These pigmented and red vascular spots create an aged variegated appearance to the facial skin which is called dyschromia, which is a sign of facial aging.

Photofacial skin care treatments or IPL treatments are the non-surgical anti-aging skin care treatment of choice for benign facial skin pigmentation, age spots, brown spots and broken blood vessels, the small red spots called telangiectasia, on the face, hands, neck and Décolletage. Photofacial treatments are now preferred over laser treatments for these specific pigment and vascular lesions. Results of photofacial non-surgical anti-aging skin care treatments can be excellent–see before and after pictures of photofacial treatments of neck and decolletage below:

How Do Photofacial or Intense Pulsed Light Non-surgical anti-aging Skin Care Treatments Work?

Photofacial or IPL anti-aging skin care treatments use a bright flash of visible light, like the light of a camera flash to remove pigment and blood vessels non-surgically from the skin. This pulsed or flashed light is very different from a laser and in most instances, less powerful and less dangerous that laser light.

I use a Photofacial IPL machine called the LuxGreen IPL made by Palomar Medical Laser Company in Burlington, Massachusetts. Palomar Medical is the premier manufacturer of Aesthetic Laser and Light therapy machines in the world. The LuxGreen Photofacial is the best Photofacial technology I have ever used. The LuxGreen Photofacial IPL machine is very effective and is the most comfortable for you the patient of any IPL device available.

Photofacial skin rejuvenation works by passing a flash of bright light through a filter that only allows a specific color of light in the flash to pass through the filter and hit the skin. In the case of the LuxGreen Photofacial, only light with a wavelength of 550nm (nm=nanometers or one millionth of a meter and is the measure of the green light wavelength in the visible light spectrum) to pass through the IPL filter and hit the skin.

The LuxGreen IPL 550nm light is selectively absorbed or taken up by the brown pigment in an age spot or the dark reddish brown color of blood in a blood vessel. When the Photofacial light energy is absorbed by the pigment or blood vessel, the heat from the Photofacial or IPL light destroys the pigment or blood vessel by heating it. Results can be excellent–see before and after picture of photofacial anti-aging skin care treatment of face below:

This process is called Target Specific Photothermolysis. A specific target, that is a color, is heated (thermo) with a light (photo) beam and dissolved or destroyed (lysis).

Using color filters placed in front of the Intense Pulsed Light beam, a wide variety of colors can be allowed through to treat many different skin conditions including hair removal (LuxRed), acne (LuxViolet), and others.

What Will My Skin Look Like Immediately After a Photofacial Skin Care Treatment?

Unlike lasers, which can cause the skin to peel and possibly leave scars, the Lux Green IPL treatments are very gentle on the skin. The pigment in the brown spot or age spot will darken very slightly, and the treated blood vessel will also darken a bit. However the skin will be intact. The treated areas may also be slightly pink for a few hours.

We place ice or a cool pack on the treated area immediately and this also may make the skin pink. However, the pinkness may be covered with makeup immediately. You may return to work. And your skin will be nearly normal the next day.

Does An Intense Pulsed Light Skin Care Treatment Hurt?

There is minimal discomfort during an IPL care treatment. Anesthesia or numbing medicine is not required. When the IPL flash hits the skin you will feel a small snap or sting, but this is easily tolerated by all of my patients.

How Many IPL Skin Care Treatments will I Need?

Usually 3 IPL skin care treatments are required spaced 4-5 weeks apart for the best results. Multiple treatments are the price for gentle treatments that are not painful and do not injure the skin.

Technically enough power can be used to remove the brown spot or blood vessel in one treatment, but this energy level would be painful, blister the skin and possibly leave a scar. This is what happened with old time laser treatments, and the new IPL is designed to remove pigment and blood vessels painlessly and with no trace or scar left behind. To accomplish this we need to stage the removal in 2-3 treatments 4-5 weeks apart. The results are well worth the wait.

How Soon after My Intense Pulsed Light Skin Care Treatment Will I See a Result?

Generally you will see the results of your IPL skin care treatment at 4-5 weeks. The brown spot will be lighter or gone and the red spot or blood vessel will be much smaller. Some patients with thin skin and very light pigment or small broken blood vessels will see complete removal after one treatment.

However most people see definite improvement 5 weeks after the IPL treatment and require 2 more treatments for complete removal.

Who Should I Consult For My Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Skin Care Treatment?

The best IPL machines are found in a physician’s office. Less powerful IPL machines are allowed to be used in Spas, but results are not as effective with these downgraded machines. In my experience patients do not get the results that they want in a spa, and often come to my practice for repeat treatments with the LuxGreen IPL after having already spent money for IPL in a spa.

The other benefit of having your IPL treatment in a physician’s office is that you will be examined by a doctor who can properly diagnose your skin condition. Some brown lesions are dangerous and require medical evaluation and should not be treated with Intense Pulsed Light. If you have Rosacea or larger blood vessels on your face, a different therapy is required. These are medical treatments and should be done in a doctor’s office. Your skin will be evaluated for more serious skin conditions, and you will receive more effective Intense Pulsed Light skin care treatments.

How Do I Find a Good Doctor to Do My Intense Pulsed Light Skin Care Treatment?

Light based and laser non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatments are best done by a doctor who is well trained and specializes in anti-aging skin treatments. Your safest bet is to seek consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist who has experience in laser and light based therapies such as Intense Pulsed Light.

I am of course prejudiced because I am a board certified plastic surgeon. However, a plastic surgeon is trained and capable of providing the full range of non-surgical and surgical skin anti-aging procedures and can customize your skin treatments to your unique face. Doctors who cannot provide all treatments are tempted to “fit your unique face” into the particular skin treatment they offer, and that is not the best situation for you.

Good sources of honest objective information about choosing a physician are available at the following sources:

The American Society of Aesthetic plastic Surgeons

Avene Skin Care Products

Avene is a product line created for individuals with sensitive skin who may have recently had a skin condition become reactive. It seems recently there have been more cases of skin issues than ever before, often leaving those affected being unable to treat themselves or use most products as they react to the products they attempt to use. Avene was created for individuals who are unable to use other products, focusing specifically on their needs in order for them to be able to care for their skin without having to sacrifice the products which could help them.

Avene skin care products can help an individual with sensitive skin by offering a wide range of available products which target multiple needs. For instance, anti-aging from Avene can help an individual remove signs of aging without the harmful chemicals which are so widely used today. Sunscreens are also important as they help protect skin from the harmful effects of the sun, which can advance signs of aging and create brown sun spots on the skin. These spots even have the ability to become much worse as you age but they can be treated or you can simply be prepared and make sure that these spots are something that you will not get or have to deal with as a part of your life and your skin.

Avene also has a great cosmetic line focusing on different needs including cleansers, make-up concealers, moisturizers, and make-up. Each of these products is aimed at sensitive skin and the needs of the body by meeting what each person needs without adding harmful chemicals. Avene cosmetics are especially important not only due to the amount of allergies and reactions which are transpiring, but also because of helping the way that you feel about yourself and your skin. Emotions are important for your health and when you skin is healthy and taken care of it can help you too become healthier and have an easier time taking care of yourself and feeling great about the way that you look at all times.

When a person feels self conscious about their skin they may also feel self conscious while around other people. This can cause a great deal of embarrassment and can make a person feel uncomfortable having company, or even worse, have them decide that they would rather give up a part of their social life. Nothing should get to stand in your way and Avene tries to make sure that nothing can not even sensitive skin. This means that when you go shopping for you skin care products, rather then roaming down the isles trying to find something you skin might be able to handle or trying product after product that you have a reaction to you can simply look for Avene. Feel the comfort of Avene and feel comfortable knowing that it will work and that you will not have to miss any social engagement due to the way that you feel about your skin or how it looks at the time.
