Critical Care: A New Nurse Faces Death, Life, and Everything in Between

Critical Care: A New Nurse Faces Death, Life, and Everything in Between

“Doctors heal, or try to, but as nurses we step into the breach, figure out what needs to be done for any given patient today, on this shift, and then, with love and exasperation, do it as best as we can.”—from Critical Care

“At my job, people die,” writes Theresa Brown, capturing both the burden and the singular importance of her profession. Brown, a former English professor at Tufts University, chronicles here her first year as an R.N. in medical oncology. As she does so, Brown illuminates the unique role of nurses in health care, giving us a deeply moving portrait of the day-to-day work nurses do: caring for the person who is ill, not just the illness itself.

Critical Care takes us with Brown as she struggles to tend to her patients’ needs, both physical (the rigors of chemotherapy) and emotional (their late-night fears). Along the way, we see the work nurses do to fight for their patients’ dignity, in spite of punishing treatments and an often uncaring hospital bureaucracy. We also see how a twelve-hour day of caring for the seriously ill gives Brown herself a deeper appreciation of what it means to be alive. Ultimately, this is a book about embracing life, whether in times of sickness or health.

As she takes us into the place where patients and nurses meet, Brown shows us the power of human connection in the face of mortality. She does so with a keen sense of humor and remarkable powers of observation, making Critical Care a powerful contribution to the literature of medicine.

Compassionate and Insightful View of a Nurse’s First Year, June 1, 2010
By

Countless books, movies and television dramas have been devoted to the lives of doctors, but what about those unsung heroes: nurses? Nurses provide the vast majority of patient care: from administering treatment to monitoring vitals to cleaning up accidents to counseling patients and patient advocacy. Still little is known about the professional lives of these vital medical providers.

Stepping into this void is nurse-author Theresa Brown in Critical Care who documents her first year as a R.N. in the oncology ward of a large teaching hospital. Brown, a former Tufts University English professor, is better equipped than most to share the real day to day lives of modern nurses. Brown explains her mid-life career change from the ivy walls of academia to the stressed halls of the nursing floor as a choice for a more chaotic, but meaningful professional life.

Critical Care is a beautifully written insider’s account of what really happens at a present-day hospital. And the truth is somewhere between the gloried angels of Marcus Welby and the pill-popping antics of Nurse Jackie. Some nurses pull rank and wield authority like a weapon. Some nurses help their colleagues and bond over cups of coffee. Some physicians expect to be treated like demi-gods. Some physicians treat the nurses and their patients with respect. Some patients and their families harangue their caregivers. Some patients praise their nurses as “angels.” Every story is, however, compelling.

As Brown confesses:

Anyone hearing a true nursing story will not want to believe it. The level of vulnerability, dependence, and fear experienced by patients in the hospital remains far outside the realm of normal, everyday life, and none of us want to imagine ourselves in that position. But people find themselves there, regardless, and they find nurses there too. Doctors don’t do poop; they’re concerned with other things. That’s OK, but it’s a difference between the two jobs. Probably they don’t do Bibles either. But nurses have to get to the heart of the matter, whatever that may be.

Getting to the heart of the matter – whether it is finding a Bible for a patient or listening to a few Bruce Springsteen songs with a patient – is what Critical Care does best!

A Passable but Unexceptional Nursing Memoir, June 16, 2010
By
Jamie Elliott (Madison, WI USA) – See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)

(REAL NAME)

Theresa Brown has made a mid-life career change, trading in her job as an English professor in order to begin anew in nursing. “I liked teaching, and at times I found in enjoyable enough, but I never felt passionately about it, for better or for worse,” says Brown of her previous career, and given the serviceable but bland prose in which she tells her story one is well able to believe that English was never her passion.

Brown is extremely enthusiastic about her new job, and she is proud of what she does. Perhaps a little too proud. Her descriptions of grateful patients and her own tenacious, mongoose-like determination to do absolutely anything for them may give more modest readers a twinge of displaced embarrassment. Throughout the book she shares a number of patient stories with accompanying philosophizing. The stories of suffering oncology patients are inherently touching; her philosophy is of the Chicken Soup for the Soul variety, certainly deeply felt but nothing out of the common way.

The book, despite being written by a medical professional, is sprinkled with inaccurate statements and downright false medical information. According to Brown, cholera causes lethal dehydration that “only IV fluids can control”. In reality, literally millions of lives have been saved with oral rehydration therapy as a treatment for cholera. She says, with “100 percent certainty”, that no doctor in the United States ever collects feces for occult blood sampling. This actually happens quite regularly during rectal exams in family practice, and in many other circumstances. These may seem like minor quibbles but one does not like to see this type of factual error, especially as Brown heavily emphasizes the importance of patient education.

The best part of the book, by far, is the chapter entitled “A Day on the Wards”. Brown really captures the reality of a day of nursing, making this chapter a great read for people considering a nursing career or for those who are interested in learning more about medicine in practice. Overall, the book is perhaps best for those that are very new to the world of medicine. Those who have read medical memoirs or been heavily involved in health care as patients or medical professionals may not find much that is novel here. However, one thing is very clear; Theresa Brown is no doubt an excellent and dedicated nurse.

An excellent read, June 1, 2010
By
Julia J. (Arlington, VA) – See all my reviews

My favorite books, whether novels or memoirs, are those that allow me to connect with the narrator, that speak with a distinctive voice, that offer a deeper understanding of our human condition, and that leave me feeling enriched by the encounter. This beautifully written book delivered on all fronts. I follow the author’s columns on The Well (The New York Times’s online health feature), so I was eager to read her in a more expanded format. I’m so glad I did. The whole book is an excellent read. The book gives us a fascinating view into Theresa Brown’s introductory year as an oncology nurse, complete with unexpected professional and personal challenges that she handles with thoughtfulness and wit. I especially liked the way the chapter “A Day on the Floor” powerfully and effectively brings home the multi-layered experience of nursing, even to readers (like me) whose only medical experience has been as an occasional patient. I found myself reading many passages aloud to my husband. This is one of those books you want to share with your friends for purely selfish reasons, just so you can have the opportunity to discuss it together.

I have severe asthma. The slightest exposure to dust, mold, polen etc. can set off a debilitating ashtma attach. I am susceptible to bronchial infection. A trip in an airplane is like inhaling germ soup. I wear the mask when flying, gardening, doing household cleaning and repairs, and in wind storms. It really works. Try it and you will see for yourself. Forget about your appearance when wearing it. Health is worth everything. This product will help keep you healthy. Comes twenty masks to a box. I would discard the mask after every use.

These N95 particulate respirators (capable of filtering 95% of particulates when worn correctly) are fairly comfortable, and easy to breathe while using. These have an added green fabric, and are rated for health care professional use. I bought them to wear on the plane for the next time I get stuck sitting next to a coughing person who would be likely to infect me.

All I can say is that Dr, Hauschka’s products feel and look wonderful.!!!! Love everything they offer. The only minus is that the products are costly, so you end up ordering a little at a time.

One mighty tin, February 27, 2009

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)

I love love love looooove this brand, really there hasn’t been one product I used form it that wasn’t wonderful and they each feels truly nourishing and wholesome. Holistic skin care is so essential, the natural and respected pure ingredients combined with intelligent science can deliver so much more, little more expensive than your average drugstore creams but to me they are totally worth it. The wonderful thing about this kit is not only the price but also the ability to try so many great items in one purchase. Prior to getting this kit I have only used the Rose cream (magnificent by the way) and it was my first time trying the face cleansers so I was excited.

The tin is beautiful and sturdy, brushed pewter does it justice. The little metal tubes are stuffed with wonderful things, begging to be squeezed and enjoyed. There’s even a toner to really get the skin clean and prepared for any of the other products. Each one can last a while, and items can be interchanged, I would open one tube at a time and use it up, great way to find new favorites, problem is that now all of them are my favorites.

This is for normal, dry or sensitive skin or for anyone who loves smooth, supple skin free of tightness and peeling. I have a mixed complexion little on the dry side and this is just perfect. There are two face washes, one a milk for getting makeup off and one a scrubby little cleanser ( really great) that feels funny as you use it, a paste of some sorts that doesn’t feel like its doing anything but once you wash it off the flesh underneath is smooth as glass and vibrant. There is a toner that preps skin for lotion and a few face creams. Moisturizing day cream – light and milky, perfect for warmer days, Rose Day Cream – which I swear by, really moist and nourishing and the Quince Day Cream – medium consistency scented like quince pears and with a golden yellow tint to add a real glow to the face. Perfect for travel or for any bathroom, a little discovery kit of wonders that work magic. I’m pretty obsessive with skin care and Dr. Hauschka is one of my top favorites, so I highly recommend after many years of happy use :)

Love My Nutrasonic More than My Clarisonic, October 13, 2011
By
JMN (New York City) – See all my reviews

This review is from: NutraSonic Face Brush Skin Care System Basic Set White (Health and Beauty)

Yes, I’m a little crazy in that I own both but I got a great deal on each one. I’m able to write this review having used both and figured that would be helpful for all prospective buyers out there.

Love the Nutrasonic- hands down winner! I missed it when I switched and just used the Clarisonic. It will spray a little water when you first put it on your face but that’s ok – you will learn easily how to work around that and keep it from happening. But, it is totally worth that bit of spray. It works so well and I look forward to washing with it every day. No more flaky dry skin that my makeup just made worse. No more embarrassment about walking around with those dead skin cells covered up with foundation – ick. I actually look forward to putting on foundation now because my skin is so smooth and wonderful now. Has a great glow and looks more youthful. (Hate to talk about this but, the blackheads do not occur as much and those that are there just want to come right out.)

The Clarisonic is much less powerful and when you compare the two brush heads the Nutrasonic has many more bristles. I’ve owned the Nutrasonic for a few months and I’m still using the sensitive skin brush on the lowest speed setting. It’s so powerful and wonderful even at that setting that it takes a greater speed on the Clarisonic to even come close to the first setting on the Nutrasonic. That power just gets my face much more clean than the Clarisonic ever does. I read somewhere that the brush on the Clarisonic was made in a special way so that it doesn’t give that initial spray of water as I mentioned before. But, I say, who cares? It doesn’t come close to cleaning my face the way the Nutrasonic does! I actually put the Clarisonic away.

Been thinking of getting in touch with Nutrasonic to let them know how great it is and that they should get their product out there more – just can’t stand how Clarisonic is in the stores and it’s not as nearly as good as this product is. That’s how much I think it’s a worthy purchase.

Bought smaller Nutrasonics for travel because I can’t live without it. Buy it! It’s much cheaper than the Clarisonic and worth every penny! Enjoy!

Update 1/2/12 – Wanted to add a few things about the Nutrasonic- it is wonderful for ingrown hairs on your legs! If you are a curly-haired gal like I am you will find this a great thing! I try to use the body brush a few times a week and have noticed that the little bumps are so much better (virtually gone!) and the exfoliation is preventing a lot of them from occurring in the first place.

Also, he Nutrasonic gives you a warning that it is going to need charging soon by indicating this a few uses before it runs out. This is very helpful. The Sonic Care seems to simply die when it needs charging and that is frustrating.

Love It!, November 9, 2011
This review is from: NutraSonic Face Brush Skin Care System Basic Set White (Health and Beauty)

THE UNIT: It’s 7 1/4″ long and is very comfortable to hold. With a brush and cover on it, it weighs 7.1 oz. The unit has to be charged for 24 hours before you can use it. I’ve been using mine for a full month. I use it about twice a week and it’s still on it’s initial charge. After it’s fully charged, you don’t need to store it on its base. I store the charger, cord and two other brushes inside the little bag that comes with it. I store the hand-held unit in a drawer when I’m not using it. It comes with a cover to protect the brush from getting mashed.

BRUSHES: It comes with three brushes, two of which are for the face alone: one for sensitive skin, one for normal skin, and a larger one for the body. I prefer the brush that’s for normal skin. The sensitive skin brush seems to be a little too soft.

BAG: This comes with a silver metallic storage bag. It’s 8″ W x 6 1/2″ H x 3 1/8″ D. There’s plenty of room

HOW IT WORKS: The brush oscillates over 400 times per second. It moves so fast you can’t really see it moving. It has four speeds: high, low, one just for the body and jitter mode. There’s not much difference between them so I use them all. I like the jerky motion of the jitter mode so I’ve been using that one the most lately.

HOW TO USE IT: When you turn it on it’s automatically on low speed. You can then choose from three other speeds. You wet your face, add your cleanser to both your face and brush and gently move it around without pressing it into your face. The spinning brush does all the work. Don’t stand too close to the mirror because suds fly all over the place.

MY THOUGHTS: I love it. It’s fun to use and you can see and feel results immediately. You can clean your face quickly, in under one minute, or you can take your time and spend a couple of minutes. It just depends on how sensitive your skin is. When you’re rinsing your face off by splashing water on it and your hands touch your face, you can feel the smoothness right away.

I would recommend this to everyone. I have no complaints about it.

I received this from the company in exchange for an honest review.

FACE PAINTING YOUR LITTLE GOBLIN FOR HALLOWEEN

Boo! Did I scare you? Well I think it’s scary that it’s almost that time of year when all our little ghosts, goblins and princesses will be roaming the streets. As parents of young children we may be making choices for our kids about Halloween and trick-or-treating. One thing that remains constant from year to year is the wonderment and joy of dressing up in costume! A growing trend nationwide along with homemade costumes is the use of face paint to complete a costume. In fact some costumes can’t be done any other way. So what kind do you use? With all the recalls dealing with paint and increased

cases of allergies, which paint is really safe to use?’

Unfortunately the answer isn’t completely black and white. We humans have a varying level of sensitivity to cosmetics and chemicals; we see this in the mom who can’t wear certain moisturizers, children who can’t use bubble bath and entire offices that ban fragrances because of severe allergies.

Craft Paint
Too often well intentioned volunteers will face paint at local holiday carnivals or fairs with craft paint they have in the supply closet, duly noting that it is ‘non-toxic’. However, there seems to be a misunderstanding of the term “non-toxic.” Non-toxic only means that something will not kill you if you ingest it. (At least not right away.) This does not mean it is approved for us on the face or body. Think of it this way a jalapeno is non-toxic but you wouldn’t want to rub it on your face. Likewise a craft or acrylic paint may contain toxic chemicals such as polymers and potential carcinogens. When reactions occur they most often include painful raised blisters and itchy rashes, on rare occasions the use of craft paint

can scar some skin types and cause serious anaphylactic allergies resulting in inflammation of the airways.

Tempra Paint
Another dubious material sometimes recommended is tempra paint mixed with face lotion. And even though our children may have painted themselves once or twice at home without adverse reactions, tempra isn’t FDA approved for use on the face. Of course our concerns are justifiably heightened when we’re dealing with children who are more sensitive to toxins than adults.

Food Coloring
Other ‘recipes’ available on the internet include a variety using food coloring. Web sites promote using food coloring mixed with glycerin, flour, corn syrup or cold cream. And while most of these ingredients are ‘food safe’ there is no escaping the fact that you are applying food coloring to your child’s face — and possibly clothes, bedding and furniture. Any mother who’s made a birthday cake or two can attest to the staining power of food coloring!

While food coloring is perhaps the least toxic of this short list of coloring agents, if you suspect a rash has been caused by a substance you painted on your child, immediately wash the area with cool water and gentle soap. Be careful — occasionally harsh detergent soaps or even baby wipes can exacerbate the problem. Then try an over-the-counter Benadryl lotion. If the problem persists, consult your doctor right away. If any reaction to a product occurs it will probably happen within the first fifteen minutes. This goes for hypersensitive children who react to industry standard cosmetic-grade make up, as well as kids who have been painted with craft paint.

As a mom and a body artist I would never paint my child, or any child, with anything less than top quality professional paints you can buy from reputable online merchants or at select costume shops. A quality  list of professional water based face suppliers include: Snazaroo, Wolfe Bros., Graftobian, Fantasy World Wide, Paradise, Kryolan, Ben Nye and Fardel. Snazaroo is so confident of their product they stand behind it with a two million dollar product liability policy and an entire web site of useful FDA information. So pick a costume, design a face to go with it, then give your child that special extra touch that makes him or her stand out from the rest of the trick-or-treating crowd and be confident that you know what you’re putting on your angel is attractive AND safe!

A “Guy’s Guy” Guide to Masculine Face Care

There are a few signs that tell you that you’re a masculine man – you know, a guy’s guy.

For starters, you know for a fact that four wheel drive is hardly optional, that pick-up trucks aren’t mere trucks – they’re machines – and anyone with any common sense better respect that. And that the only thing better than sitting around watching a bunch of hot women play volleyball on a beach, is watching one of your buddies try (and fail) to win the suicide sauce chicken wing eating contest at your local watering hole.

Yes, there are just some things that set a guy’s guy apart from the crowd – including, of course, his hatred and loathing for what the sappy beauty industry calls “men’s skincare”.

Frankly, for a guy’s guy, a face care “routine” is: water, soap, rinse, dry, repeat. Hey, it worked for men 100 years ago. It’ll work today, and 100 years from now, right?

Unfortunately – no. That ritual isn’t cutting it anymore. Soap dries the skin and causes premature aging and wrinkles. It also creates itching and discomfort – which are two things a guy’s guy can definitely do without.

Still, the idea of “taking care of your face” may be…well, just not what a guy’s guy is all about. So to help you see the bigger picture, let’s look at something else in your life that you know will never steer you in the wrong direction: your wheels.

Whether it’s a car, truck or hog — not motorcycle; only people without them call them motorcycles – your trusted ride have seen you through thick and thin. And when you consider how rare loyalty and honesty are these days, it’s not a stretch to call your wheels a good friend. Or maybe, your best friend (no, we won’t tell your girlfriend or wife about that, though she probably already knows and is living with it).

From Car Care to Face Care Step One: Cleaning

So let’s think about your wheels, and how you keep it clean. Honestly, would you use plain old water and harsh soaps on her curves? No way, buddy – the thought of applying plain old soap, or worse, icky dishwasher detergent – on your wheels is…well, it’s a sin, that’s what it is. You just wouldn’t do it.

And what about the inside of your shrine – I mean, your wheels. Would you clean the upholstery, or those fine leather seats with laundry detergent and shampoo? Not a chance! You’d use an appropriate cleaner that gets rid of the dirt, while protecting the material. That’s just common sense.

And the same applies to cleaning your face. You need a masculine cleaner for your face – not for your dishes, your tee shirts, nor your dog. You need a cleaner that is designed specifically for a guy’s guy, which cleans thoroughly to get rid of sweat, dirt and oil, without over-drying your skin and causing wrinkles and irritation. Basically, you want a simple, easy and cool cleaner that has you feeling on top of the world – the way a guy’s guy should feel. That’s step one.

From Car Care to Face Care Step Two: Lubrication

Ask any “certified” guy’s guy around and he’ll tell you that the biggest and dumbest mistake most people make with their cars is not changing the oil. Really, even the thought of people driving around right now and waiting for their “low oil” sign to (maybe?) tell them that their car is about to die of dehydration is enough to really get you mad!

And what about transmission fluid exchanges or radiator flushes? They need to be taken cared of at all times, or else you’re asking for a one-way ticket – make that a one-way tow – to the mechanic. As you know, if you want to take care of your car, the most basic, fundamental rule is simple: keep it well lubricated…or else!

The same logic applies to your face. Do you want it to look good, youthful, and vibrant? Want to prevent looking 5, 10 maybe even 15 years older than you are? Then you need to keep your face lubricated. That is, you need to treat your face with a perfect balance of high tech cutting edge anti-aging active ingredients and Super Botanicals – plants and fruits with high anti-aging properties. The right lubricant/treatment minimizes fine lines and wrinkles by helping you restore your skin’s natural balance, rebuilds collagen and elasticity, repairs past damage, and strengthens it against further environmental and assault by free radicals. In short, lubricating and treating your face with the right stuff keeps you looking and feeling like a guy’s guy. That’s step two.

From Car Care to Face Care Step Three: Protection

Most people think car wax is “shiny stuff that makes a car look good”. Yeah, and most people aren’t sure who’s the all-time greatest captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise – James T. Kirk or Jean-Luc Picard, or that you can’t learn more about life from a single football game than most people do in four years of college.

The point is, that a guy’s guy knows that wax is all about protecting your car – and keeping it safe from enemies like acid rain, bird crap, and other hazards. Sure, it also gives your wheels a sweet, sweet shine – but that’s really a bonus. Waxing is all about protection.

The same holds true for masculine face care. You’ve cleaned. You’ve lubricated. Now you have to protect against the elements. You need a powerful Super Cocktail of cutting edge anti-aging active ingredients, advanced amino acids, and botanical neuropeptides, so that you can minimize wrinkles, target crows feet around the eyes, forehead and laugh lines, and create visible long term wrinkle reduction.

And of course, protecting your skin also makes it firmer and more attractive – but that’s just a bonus, like the killer shine on your freshly waxed wheels. The real goal is protection – because we protect the things that matter to us.

Putting it All Together

Remember your “old” routine? Water, soap, rinse, dry? Now that you know that it’s as much a threat to your face as it is to your wheels – scrap that program. It’s not working for you anymore.

Your “new” routine is now all about: Cleaning, Lubricating and Protecting.

Follow those three steps and you’ll not only keep your face healthy and protected, but you’ll look younger and feel the way a guy’s guy is supposed to feel: confident, in charge, ready for the next challenge, and always willing to lend a friend a hand (as long as that friend doesn’t try and change the radio station in your wheels – nobody’s allowed to do that).

As I write my essay, I think to myself… "HOLY CRAP IT’S DUE IN TWO WEEKS." All this stress is stressing me out.

At least I finally picked up my film from Costco today. Looks gooooooood.

A healthy diet is an important factor in your successful face care program. The diet should contain adequate amounts of vitamins, minerals and proteins. Another face care tip is the fact that natural skin moisture is maintained in your face care regimen.

Beautiful soft, smooth, clear and glowing facial skin is something that does not last. Face care needs persistence and regular programming to preserve the fresh look of youth. There is no guarantee of skin beauty retention, but a regular face skin care program is essential for youthful maintenance.

Regular face and body care is necessary to prevent premature aging. Worries and tensions, adverse climate like sun’s rays and icy winds damage the skin. Regular face care is necessary for the dry, cracked and wrinkled skin that results. A face care tip is to daily face skin care.

As we age blemishes occur, sometimes prematurely, that demand an early, effective and regular face care program. Face care products can check this curse sufficiently with regular face care while you are still young.

Alternate face skin care treatments:

1.    There are many non-surgical or refinishing face care treatments available to eliminate and soften imperfections.

2.    These face care treatments can also achieve a fresher and clearer look.

3.    Some of these face skin care treatments contain fruity acids that are blended with face care products to reduce rough and dried surface skin.

4.    These surface repair face skin care treatments don’t remove the deep scars and flaws and naturally these face care treatments do not prevent aging, these face care treatments only help to temporarily enhance your appearance

5.    Other face care treatments contain enriched creams (that change the cellular metabolism of the skin’s surface) and this face skin care treatment will combat facial wrinkles and blotch damage from the harsh rays of the sun.

6.    These face skin care treatments can be augmented with aesthetic surgical procedures like facelifts and chemical peels to assist in rejuvenation of your face care. The results of these procedures are more dramatic than the non-invasive face skin care treatments.

Face Care Tips:

1.    A face care tip to support your face and body care regimen is to maintain healthy skin from within using vitamins.

2.    A face care tip included in your face and body care program is to nourish, protect, and revitalize your skin from the outside with body and face care products.

3.    One face care tip is to make sure the face care product matches your face skin type.

4.    An important face care tip to remember is sun block protection should be an ingredient in your moisturizer face care product

5.    An important face care tip is the fact that the skin requires frequent washing and more face care attention in the summer.

6.    Your face and body care also involves other parts being rejuvenated like palms, feet, back and neck to regain a youthful glow.

7.    An important face care tip is to nourish your eyes with a face care product that will diminish fine lines around the delicate skin around the eyes.

What is in Those Anti Aging Skin Care Products?

Women of all ages spend millions every year on the skin care products of the world. These women are aging, and want to fight just a little longer to hold onto the youthful image in our minds versus the reflection in the mirror. Women in their twenties are receiving Botox injections to relieve those fine lines between the eyes. Older women search the planet for every fountain of youth in a cream or lotion they can find to reduce the deepening wrinkles in the skin of the face and neck, they rub for hours to reduce the appearance of age spots on their hands, arms, and legs. What they need is a skin care product made to work for their skin no matter the age of the woman.

Every woman has a skin texture that changes as she ages; this means she needs to adjust her skin care regime to allow for the changes in her skin constantly. For some women a simple daily routine of twice daily cleansing, toning, and moisturizing skin care treatments, is enough when they are young. As their skin is exposed to daily bouts of sun and pollutants, they need to include other ingredients into their daily cleansing routine. Older women need a regime of stronger moisturizers, and emollients’, as well as the addition of anti oxidants’.  The decision to resort to cosmetic surgery is a crucial decision that some women find restores the appearance of youth.

Of course you will benefit most from a daily skin care treatment that is made up of natural ingredients that work on your skin to restore the natural moisture and resiliency of your skin. Different skin types require different ingredients.  Smooth lotions and creams are best because they cause less friction on the skin cells, strong odors usually mean the addition of perfumes or harsh chemicals’ and should be avoided. Some products offer the appeal of fresh flowers and essential oils, but if they are the wrong ingredients for your skin type, all they do is smell pretty.

Some products offer a temporary return of skins resilience and if used properly can restore over time the full elasticity lost by aging skin. These products contain collagen and elastin, two helpful natural substances that your skin has as a part of the natural chemical balance of the skin. By applying skin care products that contain these substances works to replace the natural chemical makeup of the skin cells. These ingredients stimulate the production of new healthier skin cells and promote a more elastic, firmer appearance of the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkle, and the appearance of deeper wrinkles is lessened.
